Summary: Good, but Vista hampers it.
Comment: Pros:

Decent video chipset (can run UT2004 at above average specs on most maps)
Expansion slot (would HIGHLY recommend putting a sound card in)
Fast CPU
Good value
Not too heavy
Good battery life

Cons:

Vista
--Standard Vista criticisms apply
--Gimped connection with wireless networks that broadcast DHCP
--Cripples DAWs (Audio creation programs)
--Onboard sound lacks Wave Out Mix (WTF?)
--Just now got basic XP drivers, Sony did not support XP rollbacks
and just got around to halfway fixing that
Speaker is one conjoined stereo unit and lacks bass

So, yeah, Vista comprises the bulk of my problems. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the laptop and would recommend it to anyone looking for a well-rounded middle-class machine.

Summary: Wi-Fi problem fixed
Comment: I had the same problem with this laptop where Wi-Fi switch wasn't working, so every time I had to uninstall the network driver and reboot it. I finally contacted Sony support and this problem is easily fixed. In Vista in the bottom righthand corner click an icon (it looks like two arrows) and enable WLAN capability. Problem is solved. Overall a great laptop.

Summary: Excellent computer, terrible Vista!
Comment: This laptop is excellent. Fast, Great screen, loud speakers, it doesn't get hot and burn my crotch...But the Windows Vista is terrible! How could they put this on the market? Many programs are incompatible with vista. So many that even the spy ware that came with the computer, is incompatible with vista! I can tell that this is a good computer, but the windows vista just sucks. Luckily I paid $599 for this laptop at Best Buy so I'm just going to install XP on it. I wouldn't pay full price for this. You'd be better off with a Mac laptop for about a hundred bucks more. Remember, my only qualm with this laptop is the Vista it comes with. Other than that it's great. Ok, I'm getting used to Vista and for a student or home Vista is fine, I guess.

Summary: Nice unit; problems with WIFI
Comment: I bought this laptop but, like the first reviewer, am having difficulties with the Wireless connections. The laptop will not recognize the wireless networks intermittently. Using the diagnostics just tells me that the switch is off, but it's not. If I delete the wireless card in the device manager and reboot, it will work. Seems to be related to the sleep mode but I am not satisfied yet that removing the sleep option is going to help. I have an open ticket at Sony but am not confident that they know how to fix this issue. If wireless is not a big issue for you, it's a super bargain. Otherwise, run!

Summary: very nice laptop for the price
Comment: Used it for about a month, very nice laptop, not expensive, not a gaming machine, but runs all my programs with ease. And it looks cool.
