Customer Rating: Summary: Save your money, and pass on buying Rosetta Stone Comment: It sounds like a good idea, but it's not. I used this product over time to attempt to learn Latin, so this is not a snap judgement. Rosetta Stone does not deliver what is promises. I learned more of a foreign language in a semester of college than this poorly designed product delivered in 6 months of use. Massive waste of time and money. Now, several hundred dollars worth of software sits on my shelf collecting dust while my Wheelock (Wheelock's Latin) becomes dog-eared.
PROS:
- Rosetta Stone will consume hours of your time and lull you into believing that you are learning a language.
CONS:
- WAY, WAY over-priced.
- Designed to work only when the CD is in your computer (TIP: Plan on carrying the language disk around with your laptop if you want to use the software.)
- Voices become extremely grating over time.
- Moves you at a snail's pace; if you are learning a language for business or expect to move past kindergarten level in a few months, then forget this product.
Latin-specific issues:
- Rosetta Stone only provides Level 1, and has no plans (when I contacted them) to deliver additional levels for the Latin language
- Uses Classical Latin pronunciation/spelling/inflection (Ecclesiastical Latin IS DIFFERENT).
If you want to learn a language then I'd recommend you take a course at your local college or buy one of the many texts available and a dictionary; sadly for me, either of these routes would have cost me a fraction of the price of this product and served me better in the long run. Save your money, and pass on Rosetta Stone.
Customer Rating: Summary: Get it. Comment: This product works as claim. Loaded up and works perfect. I have the Hindi and my daughter the Latin. Fantastic; don't brother with any other product. Rosetta Stone is the best. It really is.
Customer Rating: Summary: not too bad, but flawed Comment: Overall this has expanded my Latin vocabulary but the dialect drives me crazy. Rosetta Stone needs a separate program for ecclestical Latin (which is actually spoken as opposed to classical.) Other than the dialect issues this is a good program.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great product Comment: I can't stop once I start with this product. I will most likely contintue with French, Spanish, and Portuguese. You will not be disappointed. Its worth the money.
Customer Rating: Summary: As Good as Everyone Says! Comment: The Rosetta Stone Latin is fabulous. My daughter often completes more than one lesson at a time. It is great the way this approach teaches like a person learning a first language--getting familiar with how things sound rather than cumbersome rules (and Latin has plenty). Think Latin is a "dead" language? It is alive in all the Romance languages and in English. In addition to helping understand grammatical structure, this is going to help my daughter on her SATs as well as learning additional languages.

Latin Level 1 starts at the very beginning. You progress from words and phrases to complete sentences. Basic content and structures help you engage the world around you, culminating in practical language for getting around town. At any time you can practice writing or speaking what you've learned until you get it right.
