Summary: ONE OF THE WORST SOUNDING CD'S I'VE EVER HEARD!
Comment: This supposedly remastered CD sounds bright & thin with no body or bass. It's so awful that I had to take it off my stereo within seconds of playing it. I even tried to improve the sound by using a treatment available on the market to improve the sound, but that didn't even work since this CD sounds so bad. Releasing this terrible sounding CD is a disgrace. The A&M label should be ashamed of themselves!

Summary: The beautiful music of Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
Comment: The pianist and composer Sergio Mendes shows off his beautiful Brazilian-like music plenty of good pop melodies and arrangements. If The Beatles lived in Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Mendes would replace George Martin. He catched the real 60's pop spirit and mixed it with his Brazilian style, bossa nova, Latin and jazz roots for this mainstream oriented band. He is supported by marvelous musicians: bassist Bob Matthews, drummer João Palma and percusionist José Soares, and the singers Lani Hall and Janis Hansen that make a superb work with their voices, plenty of delightful harmonies. There're a good balance between the proper music and the voices. This record is recognized as lighter and more easy-listening than the jazz music usually made Sergio Mendes in U.S.A. It's easy-listening, but it isn't elevator music.

This is the first Sergio Mendes album for A&M in U.S.A., the producer was Herb Alpert; it became a big exit, with excellents songs as 'Mas Que Nada,' 'The Joker', the Beatles cover 'Day Tripper' or Jobim's 'Aqua de Beber (Water to Drink).'

Unfortunately this is a short LP, it only takes 26 minutes long. Such as their first and second album for A&M together would fit on one single CD.

I gave it four stars only because I keep five for their second LP 'Equinox.'

Summary: An awesome album!
Comment: One of the very best LPs in the bossa nova field, Sergio Mendes made a name for himself and Brasil '66 with their first album for A & M. "Mas Que Nada" is an unqualified classic while "Slow Hot Wind" is as sultry as it gets. On the amusing side is "One Note Samba/Spanish Flea" which somehow has never left my mind, and Lani Hall was the perfect female vocalist for this and several more albums to come. This is a cant miss if you love 60's music, period!

Summary: Like a small box of expensive and delicious candies!
Comment: The sound is the best I've heard on this album, with rhyhmic percussions that make you want to move. Consider Day Tripper, the Beatles tune, where it's lead guitar lines are transferred to a latin-tinged mambo type rhythmic pattern. Many of their favorite songs are here: Mais Que Nada, The Joker, One Note Samba etc. There is much more presence heard on this album than ever before, with clean and spacious highs and lows. The only negative comment I have is that at only a bit over 25 minutes long with only 10 short cuts, this is like tasting a small box of expensive, classy and delicious Brazilian candies. Give me more! more! Why didn't they add some outakes? But......those 25 minutes are pure ecstasy.
