Summary: The secret revealed!
Comment: Hibiki gets a REAL taste of war when he ends up on a ship operated by both men and women together, and they are attacked for the "Harvest." The reason for the separation of male and female becomes clear as the main battleships come to collect the "Harvest" from the Nirvana's crew's home planets.

The Nirvana is in deep DEEP trouble when they have to destroy a battleship, but it takes all their wits AND resources to destroy just one. How are they going to handle five?

This becomes more interesting as it goes along, and manages to keep it funny at the same time. The interaction between men and women is just hilarious and all the foibles of communication we have is pushed to the extreme. Men are from Mars, Women from Venus indeed!

Summary: Wow, who knew?
Comment: I won't spoil much for you, but this DVD is awesome. The enemy is not who you might expect, in fact, I can pretty much guarantee it. The emotions of the males and females reach an all time high as the women finally lose their cool with the 'insufferable' men. Hibiki is without a doubt one of the better lead characters in a while. Now I just have to wait until Second Stage is out!

Summary: Continuing fun
Comment: This last DVD has a lot more action than the previous discs. As the series goes on there are more and more questions being brought up about the universe in which all this is taking place, which I think is a pretty good combination of great fun with some very good story elements. Hibiki is growing up, Dita is maturing (a bit anyway). I would give this DVD 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that although there are good plot twists, they don't really have any effect on the current situation aboard the Nirvana, nor are any questions answered, just more brought up.
! This is the last DVD of the first season! It took me a bit of research to figure it out, but this is a sort of "season finale". Season two is Vandread: Second Stage.

As always the DVD itself is in a cool metallic cover and has the now standard extras, non credit openings and art. This DVD also has poster style pictures of the mecha and characters, which I thought was really cool. The ending song is really catchy by the way, and I would totally recommend the audio CDs released. The special effects in this disc continue to please the eyes. CG battle scenes are fun to watch. This was a pretty fun first series, and I can tell you that after seeing the next few episodes of Second Stage, my interest is even more piqued for the entire story!

Editorial Reviews:

The Last Stand! Halfway home, the women finally get fed up and decide to thr ow the men in the brig. Hibiki flees with his Vanguard and discovers a fleet of spaceship s with both men women working together in harmony! Hibiki's initial surprise is replaced by admiration, however, when the Alien fleet overwhelms and annihilates them. Adrift in s pace, Hibiki is rescued by Rabat, who takes Hibiki to the Nirvana, where the women promptl y throw both of them in jail. Can the women defeat the Aliens without the men, or will be forced to depend on each other for survival?
