Customer Rating: Summary: Shirley Valentine DVD, used Comment: DVD was in mint condition, came faster than I had anticipated and I am very pleased, as always, with Amazon! PS Great movie!
Customer Rating: Summary: favorite girlfriend movie Comment: This is just a grand escape and my husband and I actually went to this very hotel just because of the movie. In fact we went twice and would go again. The movie is just a "grand upper" for women. Pauline Collins
is spectacular.
Customer Rating: Summary: Shirley is Lovely Comment: This is one of the most wonderful stories of self actualization I have ever sen. It has humor, love, resentment, anger, regret, sadnesss, and finally redemption. Although many would consider this a "chick-flick", I think there is a lesson forus husbands too...keep the relationship alive and listen to your partener, she is far more complex than you realize. Relationships drift apart from lack of communication, so talk to eachother. That is the ultimate lesson of this heartwarming movie.
Customer Rating: Summary: .Women, listen up! Comment: For women of all ages, but most certainly for middle-aged and above, who have been or are married. You know when you're reading a good book or talking to a good friend and they just "get" everything you're feeling? There's hardly a better moment than that. Shirley Valentine is a keeper movie to pass among female friends and family. Men can watch, of course, but they're not likely to "get" it. Love it, love it, love it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Delight to the funny bone and the eyes Comment: This is a wonderous comedic romp with Pauline Collins as a put-upon British housewife who's just had enough. Her husband barely notices her, her children take her services for granted and the rainy, English climate just gets to be too much.
Her salvation is a chance to go on a holiday with a girlfriend to Greece with all its spectacular scenery!
She tells her husband she's going, and though he protests (he really doesn't believe her), off she goes to the sun, sand and the azure waters of the Mediterranean! Her vacation winds up being even better than she dreamed and when the time comes, will she go back? Should she go back?
Watch and see & be delighted at the lovely ending...or is it a beginning?

British actress Pauline Collins repeats her stage success as the character Shirley Valentine, a married woman who decides in her middle years that she wants more out of life. Leaving her spouse behind, she heads to Greece, where she grows close to a low-key, local bloke (Tom Conti). Collins and director Lewis Gilbert (Educating Rita) choose to let the character, as she did in the play, speak directly to the audience at times, and the gamble works in terms of creating a gentle, intimate atmosphere. Conti is a bonus, a warm presence and funny to boot. --Tom Keogh
