Summary: Kind of a frivolous buy...
Comment: I'm a fan. But why would you pay for this when you can easily obtain it for free? In order to make it worth paying for this, in my opinion, should have been combined with music for at least the key songs with accurate guitar notation, etc. A lot of trees died for this project... at least make it something useful and unique.

Summary: Paul Simon lyrics
Comment: This book containing all the lyrics of Paul Simon is fantastic reading. Simon may well be America's greatest poet.Every one of his lyrics is here, in chronological order. Whether you are a student of lyric writing or just a lover of Paul Simon songs, this collection is a must.

Summary: Good enough (not great though...)
Comment: Its' a beautiful book, with almost all of his lyrics, well designed, nice cover, etc. I was a little disappointed though, because of the lack of 'bonus' material. No pictures (except for the album covers and a few drafts), no commentaries, no anecdotes, nothing. Just a couple of cliché laudatory introductions by whoever-they-are...

The paper, besides, isn't as fancy as the cover may suggest. It's ok for the texts, but definitely not-ok for the few pictures...

Summary: Paul's words say it all!
Comment: My thoughts for Paul Simon's book, "Lyrics 1964-2008"

Your 6 strings plough my head,
Your verses I immensely anticipate,
Flipping through each pages intensely,
My mind runs faster than my head..

Drowining down each of your words,
Sittin in the dark, wondering...pondering,
The thoughts you have had in your mind,
To conjur up such fine lines..in such endless time...

Are those capital letter words,
Paintstakingly carved by you?
Are those manuscripts concoted,
While you're downing booze?

I wonder..I ponder,
Let me in into your insight,
How I have finally waited for this,
Amazing piece of work to arrive

Pictures of you in black and white,
Pictures of your achievements,
All shown in great delight,
Tells me many a things,
Of your great feat in life and in music

Of the high notes you have hit,
Amazing chorus and verses you have weaved,
That are utmost admirable,
That is all you can be!

Summary: Snatch a little purity
Comment: Here's a vote for Paul Simon being appointed Poet Laureate. It would be perfect: Under Barack Obama's tenure as president the Library of Congress chooses someone equally unusual and gifted to be the eloquent voice of this nation.

Lyrics 1964-2008 is just that: The lyrics to Simon's songs. The number of words here is staggering. You forget just how prolific he has been. More impressive is how many of these songs hit close to home. How many you know by heart.

There are a few bonuses. The album covers are reproduced (in black and white). A sprinkling of photographs include some with Art Garfunkel and some recent performance shots. Best of all, there are copies of the original hand-written lyrics to some of Simon's best songs: "Mother and Child Reunion," "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard," "Kodachrome," "American Tune," "Loves Me Like a Rock," "Still Crazy After All These Years," "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover," "Slip Sliding Away," "Boy in the Bubble," "Graceland," "You Can Call Me Al," "Look at That." You can see Simon having trouble with the end of "American Tune" (he has erased some words, and finally puts a question mark next to the lyric). In the notes for "Graceland," you can see the mournful lines, unused: "For no logical reason, no explanation, something deep inside of me is going to Graceland."

There is something redemptive about Simon's work. This book says it all.
