Summary: The best WWII Film
Comment: In my opinion, this is the best WWII movie ever made. Actually depicts the politics that went on behind the scenes as well as the action on the field.

Summary: Very good
Comment: Still the best made war movie of all time, just not an allied victory so it never got its' due. The Bluray version has better sound quality than the conventional one, but the picture isn't vastly improved so you can live without the Bluray if need be.

Summary: Another Cornelius Ryan epic
Comment: Based on the Ryan book, Richard Attenborough's epic war movie is the largest of it's kind since THE LONGEST DAY. However, this was a totally different chapter from WWII with vastly different results. Operation Market Garden, an ill-conceived Bernard Law Montgomery plan to seize the bridges leading into the industrial Ruhr Valley of Germany by using paratroopers to take and hold the bridge for British armor that would smash it's way into Germany. No one realized that two SS Panzer divisions had been placed in the area for R&R before the intended battle with Patton's 3rd Army. Great cast: Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Laurence Olivier, James Caan, Dirk Bogarde, Anthony Hopkins, and many others.

Summary: Good Copy
Comment: Nice reproduction. It was originally filmed in great quality. Not real sure if the Blue-ray version is that much better. I viewed it on a 720p 42" LCD. But the price made it worth it.

Summary: Monumental Movie Let Down By Fox. Should Be "A Fee Too Far".
Comment: I hate to rate this movie as three stars being that it's one of the greatest war movies ever made, but I have a real issue with Fox. First off, they are the most expensive BD's of all the studios and secondly, they omit all of the special features enjoyed on previous DVD versions. Instead of maxing out a BD50 disc with the MPEG2 codec, it would be great to use what other studios employ, namely VC-1 and utilising the extra space for special features. Fox charge at least $10 more for their titles in part probably due to the extra security measures they insist on using. The movie itself is not best conversion to Blu-ray I have seen and can seem a little too soft focused for the most part, but the the actual film is first class with one of the largest star lists I have ever seen including Sean Connery, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins and just too many to mention. If only Fox could just get their act together and treat movies like this, The Battle Of Britain, Master & Commander, Kingdom Of Heaven and others with the respect they deserve.

Editorial Reviews:

An epic film that "re-creates in stunning detail one of the most disastrous battles of World War II" (The Hollywood Reporter), A Bridge Too Far is a spectacular war picture. Painstakingly recreated on actual battlefield locations and boasting a remarkable cast that includes Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, Sir Laurence Olivier and Robert Redford, A Bridge Too Far accurately recaptures the monumental scope, excitement and danger behind one of the biggest military gambles in history. In September 1944, flush with success after the Normandy Invasion, the Allies confidently launched Operation Market Garden, a wild scheme intended to put an early end to the fighting by invading Germany and smashing the Reich's war plants. But a combination of battlefield politics, faulty intelligence, bad luck and even worse weather led to disaster beyond the Allies' darkest fears.
