Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) July 8, 2004 -- The Belfort Instrument Company is
pleased to announce that the FAA has recently conferred AWOS status to the
DigiWx Automated Weather System. This approval represents an important milestone
for the DigiWx product line as it evolves to provide full IFR flight support for
private and commercial operations while also making it eligible for AIP funding
immediately.
This approval also represents several "firsts" in the
history of FAA approved automated weather system capabilities:
· DigiWx
is the first and only AWOS approved for transmission of official and advisory
weather information over UNICOM OR dedicated VHF frequency. Now that the FAA has
approved the broadcast of official weather data over UNICOM frequencies, DigiWx
is the first and only approved AWOS that has both capabilities: automated UNICOM
or discreet VHF frequency transmission. DigiWx's automated UNICOM capability
features its revolutionary voice recognition technology for pilot initiated
weather inquiries. This feature enables automated communications for those
airports that are ineligible for a dedicated VHF frequency assignment for the
transmission of local weather information. For those airports eligible for a
dedicated frequency, but who are enduring the protracted FCC application
process, the automated UNICOM capability of DigiWx AWOS can act as a "bridge"
until a dedicated frequency is assigned. Once the frequency is assigned, the
DigiWx system can be easily converted to continuous loop operation.
·
DigiWx is the first and only AWOS approved with a user-friendly internet
display. The DigiWx AWOS graphical display provides convenient public access to
critical pre-flight planning data, trend analysis for a wide variety of weather
parameters and off-site archiving of important historical data. The internet
option is also capable of providing easy access to live web cam images of the
airport operating environment which can act as an important proxy to traditional
visibility data.
· DigiWx is the first and only AWOS that has
comprehensive remote monitoring and on-line support capabilities. The
PC/internet based digital architecture provides for cost effective support
packages that include remote monitoring of system status with automated fault
alerts and on-line software upgrades and technical support - all of which
results in drastic cost reductions in post sales support and periodic
performance verification vs. existing AWOS systems.
· DigiWx is the first
and only AWOS to incorporate these innovations at a system price far below those
from other AWOS vendors. DigiWx was designed to be affordable for even the
smallest of general aviation airports - not only total cost of acquisition, but
also post sale support and periodic performance verification. DigiWx has several
unique design features that help to minimize site selection and site preparation
expenses including: a unique 15' wind sensor tower which can mitigate site
selection constraints for airports that cannot accommodate the traditional 30'
wind tower found on current AWOS designs; an option for solar panel for certain
low power configurations, and; wireless data feeds which eliminate the cost of
trenching.
