(PRWEB) May 27, 2005 -- DestinationRx, Inc. Announces
PDOAP Application of
Medicare.gov Wins the 2005 Pioneer Award
Los Angeles, CA, May 14, 2005 –
DestinationRx, Inc. (DestinationRx) announced today that the Prescription Drug
and Other Assistance Programs (PDOAP) component at www.medicare.gov is the
recipient of the 2005 Pioneer Award chosen by E-Gov's Government Solutions
Center (GSC). Winners were selected for their significant impact on how
Government conducts business in the Information Age. In recognition, CMS will be
demonstrating the online tool that allows users to compare and select Medicare
approved prescription drug card plans during the Web-Enabled Government
Exhibition on June 2 at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC.
The
2005 E-Gov Pioneer Award was granted to only 14 government agencies out of
nearly 200 nominations from federal, state, and local government organizations,
as well as international submissions. Selection criteria for the award included
systems that: "increased productivity, saved limited public resources, and
improved the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of citizen services."
DestinationRx built, deployed and hosted the Price Comparison component
of the PDOAP application to help Medicare beneficiaries select a Medicare
approved drug discount card as an interim step before the Medicare prescription
drug benefit begins January 1, 2006.
DestinationRx licensed its
technology to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and
developed the presentation of the beneficiary choices tool in conjunction with
CMS. DestinationRx Executive Vice President, Jim Yocum said that before the
online system was operational, "CMS was in urgent need for an application that
could carry out the Medicare Modernization Act’s requirement that beneficiaries
would be able to compare discount card programs by out-of-pocket costs.
DestinationRx, having developed its Price Comparison software for its
consumer and commercial businesses, was able to provide this capability and to
provide it within an extremely short delivery window. Furthermore, CMS wanted
this capability to be applied down to the individual pharmacy storefront. This
has never been done before; it is equivalent to providing to consumers the price
of every single product in every single supermarket, grocery, and convenience
store and updating that information every week.”
In addition to
delivering the price transparency that made the comparisons possible,
DestinationRx also licensed and operates the Online Enrollment Center for CMS,
greatly improving the efficiency of the comparison and enrollment of low-income
and other Medicare beneficiaries in the most appropriate Drug
Card.
