PREVOTE 2004 NATIONAL LAUNCH – One Million Votes in One Month
PreVote 2004 this week announced the launch of the first national prevote election. Prevote2004.com is a non-profit, non-partisan campaign to reach one million voters in one month before the U.S. presidential election.
New York, NY - October 8, 2004 - The PreVote 2004 this week launched the
first national PreVote, a non-profit campaign to bring Americans of all ages to
vote in a simulated election where users cast their ballot, rate the candidates,
and can change their vote up through election day. The PreVote 2004 is a dynamic
barometer of public sentiment and utilizes the latest internet technologies of
social networks, web journals, and ratings to engage communities in the
political process.
The PreVote has gained sponsorship with leading
companies and aims to reach one million people in the one month leading up to
the election. With features on NBC, Yahoo! News, and other national news
syndicates, publicity for PreVote 2004 has quickly gained steam.
“We’re
using the power of the internet to reinvent politics,” said Solomon Liou, 23,
co-founder of The PreVote. “Social networks, web journals, and ratings are three
tools that open up elections from one dimensional “yea or nay” systems, to
dynamic, expressive exchanges where voters can convey their degree of support
and changes in opinion.”
The PreVote helps people encourage their
communities of friends to engage in meaningful discussions on the issues that
matter to them. The PreVote has teamed up with BuddyTrain.com, an online friend
community, to allow prevoters to create their own BuddyTrain page, where they
can publish web journals, join discussion groups, and send private messages with
their personal community of friends.
“The PreVote is here to get you
educated while putting the fun into politics,” said Liou. “It’s fun to see who
your friends support, and how their views change going into and coming out of
the presidential debates. But ultimately, the goal of the PreVote 2004 is
supporting the actual vote on November 2nd and enabling millions of voters to
make a conscious and informed decision.”
