Black Model Auctions Herself for Breast Cancer
A Date for Charity in Support of Breast Cancer Month - Sun Karma does it again. After the auction for PETA, she now auctions a date in honor of breast cancer research in honor of her two aunts that died of breast cancer. Sixty percent goes to breast cancer research.
(PRWEB) June 7, 2005 -- To celebrate breast cancer month, a professional
model decided to give back the best way she can -- auction a date with herself
to charity. Sun Karma, a professional model out of Virginia, decided to give one
lucky winner a special dinner and a movie evening with her. She will be giving
60% of the profits to the breast cancer foundation in support of breast cancer
month. This auction was originally listed on EBAY..but has been taken private
for several reasons. Feel free to contact us for further details.
The
Breast Cancer Research Foundation is dedicated to preventing breast cancer and
finding a cure in our lifetime by funding clinical and genetic research
worldwide. A minimum of 85 cents of each dollar donated to the Foundation goes
directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs.
In 2005, the
American Cancer Society estimates that there will be approximately 211,240 new
cases of invasive breast cancer in women in the United States, and 1,690 in men.
An estimated 40,410 women and 460 men will die from the disease. According to
the National Cancer Institute, breast cancer accounts for about 15 percent of
all cancer-related deaths in women in the nation.
The BCRF, a
not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, was established in September 1993 by
Evelyn H. Lauder, following a successful $18 million fundraising effort to build
a comprehensive breast cancer center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York
City. To date, the Foundation has raised $100 million to support outstanding
breast cancer research nationwide.
For 2004--2005, BCRF has awarded
grants of over $18 million to support 97 researchers across the U.S. and
worldwide.
"My Aunts died from breast cancer and I feel I must give
back so I decided to auction a date with myself to support the cause" replies
Sun Karma when asked about the auction. "I am one woman that has been affected
by this disease..and I want to help find a cure in my lifetime. It's not about
ME...it's about what each of us can do to help."
As you can see the
industry is not all about money and Sun Karma proves that it is not about the
money it is about the determination it takes to help a great cause and prove
there is a great feeling to doing something you feel if right.
