Special Ops Security Speaks at Pentagon Security Forum
Erik Pace Birkholz presents to the Pentagon Security Forum, presented by the Network Security Services-Pentagon team within the US Army OAA-Information Technology Agency.
Pentagon, Washington, DC (PRWEB via PR
Web Direct) March 4, 2005 -- Erik Pace Birkholz, president and founder of
Special Ops Security, Inc., was invited to speak at the monthly Pentagon
Security Forum, presented by the Network Security Services-Pentagon (NSS-P) team
within the US Army OAA-Information Technology Agency. He spoke on the importance
of an asset-centric model for computer network security, outlining the
deficiencies in the traditional perimeter security paradigm. Chief Technology
Officer Steven Andres was on-hand to assist with the live web and database
hacking demonstrations to illustrate the concepts presented. In attendance were
members from the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), Office of the Secretary of
Defense (OSD), the Army, and the Air Force.
"We were extremely fortunate
to have Special Ops Security share their unique vision with our Pentagon
community. We anticipated technical excellence from pen-testing subject matter
experts, and our expectations were exceeded," said Rick Anderson, Director of
Network Security Services-Pentagon.
"We were honored to be invited to the
Pentagon and share our security expertise with the DoD community," said
Birkholz. "Coming from a military family, it was important for me to contribute
in some small way to the security of our nation's critical
infrastructure."
Mr. Birkholz is an experienced speaker, having presented
to the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in April 2004 and
the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC), which includes
the Federal Reserve Board (FRB), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC),
National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), Office of the Comptroller of the
Currency (OCC), and the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), in August 2004.
Additionally, Erik trained members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
and several agencies within the US Department of Defense (DoD) as a Principal
Security Consultant for Foundstone, recently acquired by McAfee in late 2004.
