Great Meadow Polo Club Presents the Patton -- Puller Memorial Army/Marine Polo Match Sponsored by Lincoln Group
Generals Patton and Puller are two of the most famous American combat leaders of the 20th century and popularly viewed as representing the pinnacle of military spirit. Not so well known, is the fact that both were also polo players and leaders of their respective service teams.
Generals Patton and Puller are two of the most famous American combat leaders

Gen. George S. Patton, Jr.
started his polo career while a cadet at West Point, was an accomplished as well
as aggressive player and captained US Army teams in the United States, Hawaii
and the Philippines for a quarter of a century.
Lt. Gen. “Chesty” Puller
was a member of the mounted “Horse Marines” color guard of the US Peking
legation in China during the mid-1930s and captained the US Marine polo team
playing in international competitions.
Although there is no record of
Patton and Puller playing against each other, Great Meadow Polo Club holds the
annual Memorial polo match between active and veteran members of the US Army and
Marine Corps to honor the contribution of these two great warriors to the
country and the sport of polo, as well as symbolize Virginia’s equestrian
community military appreciation.
