Columbus, OH (PRWEB) August 26, 2004 -- Congressman Michael R. Turner (OH-3)
will visit Columbus and tour the Defense Supply Center-Columbus (DSCC) this week
as a part of a three-day statewide tour of Ohio’s military and defense industry
facilities. He will also meet with members of the Base Realignment and Closure
(BRAC) Working Group—led by the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce—whose
mission is to build increased awareness of DSCC’s capabilities and economic
impact on central Ohio.
After the tour, Congressman Turner will be
available to members of the media along with leaders of the BRAC Working Group.
The media availability will begin at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at
the Whitehall Community Center, 402 North Hamilton Road, Whitehall,
Ohio.
Congressman Turner said, “I am taking this opportunity to review
homeland security and economic security issues with key personnel at some of
Ohio’s vital defense facilities, such as DSCC. I look forward to working with my
House colleagues, Representative David Hobson, Representative Pat Tiberi,
Representative Deborah Pryce, and others to continue to support facilities like
the DSCC that provide jobs for Ohioans and security for the entire nation.
Protecting our state’s military installations and defense facilities is
important for all Ohioans.”
Representative Turner is a Member of the
House Armed Services Committee. He is visiting some of Ohio’s most important
military installations and defense industry facilities to spotlight the critical
role that the state’s defense facilities contribute to national security; how
many jobs they provide to Ohioans and to better prepare and protect the state’s
interests as the upcoming BRAC discussions begin in Washington, DC.
“We
are honored to have Congressman Turner here to tour the DSCC and meet with our
working group,” said Stephen Tugend, Vice President of Government Relations for
the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce. “We are working hard to build
heightened awareness of the DSCC’s capabilities and its tremendous impact on
central Ohio with key leaders in Congress and the Department of Defense. ‘Team
DSCC’ is a broad-based and rapidly growing coalition of community and business
leaders who understand the value of the DSCC to our state.”
