West Greenwich, RI (PRWEB) June 25, 2004 -- Dr. Carl L. Sheeler, 44, a West
Greenwich, RI resident, businessman and previously a registered Republican, has
disaffiliated with the Republican Party and announced his candidacy for the
District 34 Rhode Island Senate seat currently held by Kevin A. Breene (R), a
West Greenwich dairy farmer. Sheeler is committed to a frank and open campaign.
He stated, "It's time for vision, leadership, candor and action. Many Rhode
Island Republican representatives distance themselves from the RNC and the White
House; however, inaction and rhetoric does not address the needs of Rhode Island
citizens. They see lost jobs, preferential tax cuts, questionable energy price
hikes as well as a mismanaged fiscal policy and a protracted presence in Iraq. I
have the fortitude and conviction to provide Unaffiliated, Democrat and unhappy
Republican voters a voice in the Rhode Island Senate."
Dr. Sheeler
discussed his candidacy with the Rhode Island Democratic Party Chairman, William
Lynch, Esq.. Dr. Sheeler believes bipartisan decisions and input from Operation
Clean Government will represent the Rhode Island community's future interests
best. The municipalities of Exeter, West Greenwich, Charlestown, Hopkinton and
Richmond are represented within District 34. “I feel the Rhode Islanders in my
district are disillusioned with state politics. They are a diverse mix of
moderate and high wage earners.
"I know many residents and educators of
West Greenwich and the District are concerned with the quality of education from
pre-school to after high school, as expenditures per student are below the state
average. I know they see the quality and quantity of services having declined
despite property taxes increasing dramatically. This concerns the future of my
children, too. There are also a myriad of issues associated with attracting
commerce to the state, our aging population, quality of life and costs of
prescription medicine that need addressing," states Sheeler.
A former
active duty and reserve USMC combat and staff officer, Sheeler has seen the
importance of making difficult and often unpopular decisions. He shares "Leaders
plan for and find opportunities. They are accountable for and head off crises
before they occur. We need State incentives for families and companies to invest
in increasing the level of education and subsequently the pay of current and
future workers. We have to attract both large and small business investment into
our state that will increase the number of high paying jobs and the tax revenues
that fund the services our citizens want. All companies want to see a labor pool
that is motivated and has access to college education," he states.
Dr.
Sheeler holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the Union Institute and University
(Cincinnati) and a Masters and Bachelors in Management and Business from the
Command and Staff War College (Quantico, VA) and the University of
Illinois-Chicago, respectively. He is expected to be an adjunct professor at
Bryant University in the College of Business this fall. Since 1992, he has been
the Managing Partner of Allison Appraisals & Assessments, Inc., a nationwide
firm that provides expert testimony for attorneys in litigation and tax matters
involving business value and economic damages. He invites the media, interested
contributors, volunteers and District 34 voters to contact him at his website at
www.Sheeler4RISenate.com or calling (401) 397-4618.
