Penningtons Solicitors LLP (Penningtons), the City and South East commercial and private client law firm, has rolled out BigHand Digital Dictation Software (DDS) to more than 400 staff across 5 UK sites. The DDS initiative is part of an IT strategy to promote unity across the firm, encourage cross office departmental cooperation and offer a seamless service to clients regardless of location.

BigHand Digital Dictation Software (DDS) to more than 400 staff across 5 UK
sites. The DDS initiative is part of an IT strategy to promote unity across the

Penningtons’ clinical
negligence department, for example, is split across the Godalming and
Basingstoke offices. Secretaries within the department from either office can
now provide support to any fee earner (wherever they are located) in the event
of absences, holidays or increased workloads. Productivity is maintained at all
times and the department works as a team in a way that wasn’t possible prior to
the BigHand roll out. Penningtons plans to monitor the ongoing savings on
temporary appointments.
Marcus Shepherd, Head of IT at Penningtons,
commented, “Increasingly we aim to bring in systems that will enable our network
of offices to function more effectively as one overall unit. The critical factor
for DDS was whether the application transferred voice efficiently enough to
support a centralized server set-up across five sites. BigHand Software offered
