Over 5200 Concerned Adults Refuse to Comply with New Freedom Initiative for Mental Health Screening in the Schools
5200 people from all over the country and even from other countries have signed up to oppose President Bush’s New Freedom Commission's plan to screen every child in United States schools for “mental illness.” These citizens have joined together in the following statement: “We, the undersigned, solemnly declare that we will not allow our children to be the subjects of any form of implementation of New Freedom Commission recommendations to screen our children for signs of ‘mental illness.’"

Over 5000 people
from all over the country and even from other countries have now signed up to
oppose the President Bush’s New Freedom Commission's plan to screen every child
in United States schools for “mental illness,” and get as many as possible on
expensive, dangerous psychiatric drugs, in order to profit some of the primary
contributors to his presidential campaign. Voices from all over America are
being heard, saying "We promise to actively resist further intrusion of
psychiatry into the public schools, and will not cooperate in any way with those
who act as agents of this wrong-headed government initiative.
We do not
now and will not later consent to the psychiatric or psychological testing of
our children by those who act as agents to implement New Freedom recommendations
for universal mental health screening of our children." Republicans and
Democrats, Green Party and Libertarians and people with no political affiliation
alike are all raising a cry to say that this plan will NOT go into effect.
U.S. Representative Ron Paul is fighting in Congress to stop funding for
children’s mental health screening, and is the sponsoring author of HR 5236, a
bill called “Let Parents Raise Their Kids,” which will deny funding for any
mandatory mental health screening in the schools. Paul declared that “Parents
must do everything possible to retain responsibility and control over their
children’s well-being… The federal government is slowly but surely destroying
real families, but it is hardly a benevolent surrogate parent.”

Breeding, PhD, director of Texans for Safe Education (www.wildestcolts.org), a
citizens group which sponsors the Declaration of refusal along with Parents for
a Label and Drug Free Education, states that "Far more people are upset with the
President for this plan than his margin of victory in Florida which gave him the
election in 2000. I have rarely seen such a bipartisan outpouring of dissent.

Medication Algorithm Project (TMAP), revealing that drug company money played a
major role in TMAP development, which subsequently resulted in huge payoffs for
their high dollar psychiatric drugs. The public is outraged that at least half
of the New Freedom Commissioners were directly involved with
TMAP.
Pennsylvania whistleblower Allen Jones states that, “The
pharmaceutical industry has methodically compromised our political system at all
levels and has systematically infiltrated the mental health service delivery
system of this nation. They are poised to consolidate their grip via the New
Freedom Commission and the Texas Medication Algorithm Project. The pervasive
manipulation of clinical trials, the non-reporting of negative trials and the
cover-up of debilitating and deadly side effects render meaningful informed
consent impossible. Doctors and patients alike have been betrayed by the
governmental entities and officials who are supposed to protect
them.”
Able Child President Patricia Weathers, whose website posted the
Declaration of Refusal on 9-04-04 states, “When did our government decide they
had a right to override our Constitutional right to liberty and dictate to us
how to live our lives? The rapid responses to this petition, 4,000 signatures in
the first 3 days (and still growing rapidly), show the widespread support and
decision to thwart the intentional and flagrant disregard of human rights
inherent in universal mental health screening. We invite all parents and anyone
