Drugs, Violence and the Black Middle Class

Bronx, December 9, 2004- “God Helps Those…” explores how the crack epidemic
of the eighties effected the middle class African American community. Alan
Cramer, a recovering functional ‘crack head,’ pens a novel that exposes the
dirty secrets. He shows how even the working class crack head will do anything
to survive.
The author states, “A lot of urban fiction deals with the so
called Ballers and Players, this ignores the fact that the majority of people
involved in the drug game were the actual users. A dealer could earn over
$40,000 a year with just five U.S. Postal workers for customers. This is not
just urban fiction. This is what’s really going on,” claims Cramer.
