naijasounds: The Launch of the Parties
naijasounds provides a range of services primarily targeted at the black African community. The parties are an offshoot of the naijasounds web forum, which has successfully attracted a diverse mix of black Africans providing a avenue for socialising in a relaxed atmosphere with R&B, hip-hop and african music. It also provides an avenue to showcase African artists.
(PRWEB) May 23, 2005 -- Fri., May 6, 2005 saw the very first of naijasounds
parties at the Steam Bar, Hilton Paddington, London. A night of great music and
live entertainment in one of London’s hottest venues.
The monthly
parties are an offshoot of the naijasounds web forum, which has successfully
attracted a diverse mix of black Africans discussing issues as varied as “Are
black men romantic” to the latest 419 scams. The party provided an avenue for
forum participants to meet and continue conversations left unfinished on the
forum and decide if internet photos matched up to the real thing! (www.naijasounds.com/forum)
The very first party went
off with a bang. There was an eclectic mix of people. People from as far away as
Scotland, Southampton and even Wales came, as they just had to make the party.
Dolly Olusanya from Southampton said “I can’t believe there are so many chassis
(slang for cool) people here!” (Pictures available at www.naijasounds.com/events)
It was a great atmosphere,
with people reconnecting with old school friends they hadn’t seen in a long
time. Although this was not always a positive thing as J (name withheld) from
London discovered, when she bumped into an old flame from college days with his
new beau. Every girl’s nightmare!
A wide variety of hip-hop, RnB and afro
hip-hop was played with an electric live performance by Weird MC, one of
Nigeria’s hottest female rap stars, who was introduced by members of the award
winning 419 squad. Future events aim to provide a platform for other established
and aspiring artistes to showcase their music.
Goody bags were given out
at the end of the night which were received with excitement. Party goers were
pleasantly surprised as they were taken back home with treats such as ‘Okin’
biscuits and ‘Tom Tom’ sweets, from Nigeria. A lucky few went away with limited
edition t-shirts from the naijaman and naijababe range.
The night proved
to be a great success and has set a trend of diversity and finesse unequalled by
none. Next party will be on the 3rd of June 2005 at the same venue. To avoid
disappointment, request for guest list and table bookings can be sent to e-mail

next party promises to be even more electrifying.
