Corriente Networks Releases Elektron for Small Business Wi-Fi Security
The release adds new features to the small business wireless networking product, including support for Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger."
Berkeley, CA (PRWEB via PR Web
Direct) May 24, 2005 -- Corriente Networks today announced the release and
immediate availability of Elektron 1.1, the latest version of its award-winning
software for securing small business Wi-Fi networks. The software brings easy to
use, enterprise-level Wi-Fi security to businesses without a full time IT staff.
The new release adds support for the latest Mac OS X release, additional user
authentication options, and simplified server administration.
Elektron
provides RADIUS authentication services to WPA Enterprise capable wireless
access points, including popular hardware from manufacturers like Apple,
Linksys, D-Link, Cisco, and Netgear. WPA Enterprise is the standard specified by
the Wi-Fi Alliance (http://www.wi-fi.org) for the strongest available wireless
network security. Elektron is the first non-proprietary server solution to bring
WPA Enterprise security to small businesses.
This release adds the
ability to administer the Elektron server from a remote workstation,
configuration of additional security parameters, and the ability to authenticate
wireless users based on the MAC address of their laptop. This last feature has
proven a boon to K-12 users and other organizations with basic Wi-Fi security
needs but without the means to upgrade all users to recent Wi-Fi
hardware.
For Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" users, Elektron 1.1 includes
Automator actions that simplify common server administration tasks. The actions
provided include the ability to import and add user accounts, and to backup and
restore the Elektron server database.
Elektron contains support for the
latest Wi-Fi security standards, including PEAP and TTLS. Elektron is compatible
with the Wi-Fi client software built into Mac OS X 10.3 and later and Windows
XP. No additional software is necessary for clients using either of these
platforms.
Pricing and Availability:
Elektron 1.1 is available now at
a price of $299.99 for Windows 2000/XP/2003 and Mac OS X 10.2.8 or higher. It
may be purchased directly through the Corriente Networks web site or through one
of Corriente's value added resellers. Elektron is licensed on a per-server
basis, with each server licensed for an unlimited number of
clients.
Owners of previous versions of Elektron may upgrade to Elektron
1.1 at no charge.
